What Do I Need to Know About Ultrasounds?

Ultrasound studies utilize non-ionizing high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of targeted body parts/organs. This can include (but is not limited to) studies of the abdomen, pelvis, fetus in utero, joints, arteries/veins, or other small body parts.

Doppler ultrasound images are specifically designed to examine the properties of blood flow through the body in the arteries and/or veins in the arms, legs, or neck. These are common studies that evaluate for blood clots, reflux, and/or narrowing.

What to Remember:

  • An appointment is required for an ultrasound examination.
  • Please arrive 15 mins prior to your appointment time. If you are late, your appointment may need to be rebooked.
  • It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing, preferably without zippers, belts, or buttons if possible.
  • You may be asked to wear a gown.
